This Course focuses on the aesthetic and artistic qualities of dance and the use of dance movement as a medium of expression and communication in the performance, creation and appreciation of dance.

Students will develop knowledge, skills and understanding of creating and interpreting ideas embodied in dance.

Students will study professional dance works within artistic and social contexts.

Students will study how movement can be designed to communicate and evoke responses that places dance within the realms of performing arts.

Set study solo 20%

Written exam paper 20%

Coursework – 60%

Chorography 30%

Expanded programme note – 20%

Performance in group/duo – 10%

Suitable candidates should have the potential to engage in a broad study of dance. They should be able to develop knowledge, skills and understanding of performance, choreography and appreciation. It is not necessary for students to have achieved awards from the private dance sector.
