KS3 History

Course Content

The National Curriculum for Key Stage Three incorporates 5 strands:

  1. Chronological understanding
  2. Knowledge and understanding of events, people and changes in the past
  3. Historical understanding
  4. Historical enquiry
  5. Organisation and communication

Year 7 Units

The 1066 Story, The Norman Conquest, Castles, The Medieval Church, The Islamic World and Rye: Local History

Year 8 Units

The Early Tudors, Henry’s Children, The Stuarts, The English Civil War and The British Empire.

Year 9 Units

Slavery, The Industrial Revolution, The First World War, End of the War, The Changing Role of Women and The Second World War.

KS4 History

Coursework - 25%

Written Examination - 75%

Exam Board: OCR

This course is a based on modern world history covering the major events of the twentieth century. You would begin by studying the main events of European history following World War One. This leads into detailed study of Germany and Russia up to the Second World War. Time is also spent studying international relations since 1945, twentieth century American history and British politics before the First World War. You would spend time learning how to analyse and discuss events in order to develop empathy and an understanding of the modern world. ICT is increasingly used for research and presenting information.

Home Learning:

You would support your College work by completing a range of additional activities and tasks. This will include watching relevant programmes. You would also spend time completing your coursework projects and studying materials in preparation for assessments and examinations.

Coursework requirements:

You will need to complete two pieces of written work, one on Russia during the 1920’s and 1930’s and one depth study of Stalin. You would complete these during the middle part of the course.

Possible careers:

This course would be of use to anyone going into a career that requires an understanding of people and the recent past. It would also be of use to students thinking of studying History at a higher level or related subjects such as Politics or International Relations.
