House system

The school is divided into four houses:

We use vertical forms, students from all years are in each of our forms

Citadel

Citadels are most often used to protect the inhabitants of the town it is defending. They were designed to ensure loyalty from the town which they defended.

Heads of House - Mrs Donna Starkey / Ms Mel Croucher

Citadel House Motto

“As individuals we are stars, as a House we shine”

“Everyone has something special inside them and together we learn how to make the most of it.”

Landgate

Did you know that the Langate was built in 1377 after Edward II became King? The Royal Charter given by him allowed the people of Rye to build a wall around Rye. This used to be the main route to get in and out of Rye. We have so many visitors who come back year after year to see this lovely town steeped in history.

Head of House - Lorraine Lyden

Landgate House Motto

Winning is everything but let’s have fun while we do it!

You only live once so live life to the full as this is your life and your chance to achieve your dreams.

Strand

Medieval Rye attracts visitors from far and wide. At the heart of the town, situated at the centre of everything is The Strand.

Once the site of the docks and the local boatbuilding industry (pounded by the Luftwaffe during the war) The strand is now a place to relax and soak up the atmosphere of the town. The place to see and be seen! As the Bryan Ferry song suggests: “Do the strand”! Water from the River Tilling joins The Strand close to the Rye Millennium Wall. At night with a high tide and under the blaze of a full moon the appearance of a molten silver river jockeys for your attention with the ‘sounds of The Strand’ – the hissing and chuckling of the little tethered boats which jerk and chuckle against the current. Like a thread of gold the river leaves The Strand and weaves its way past little fishing boats and past a thousand years of Rye’s history then joins the mighty river Rother to begin its majestic journey to the English Channel at Rye Harbour. Strand House is the ‘blue team’. From 1968 the House was known as Rother House and was re-named in 2004 after the re-launch of the pastoral House system at the College.

Head of House - Mr C A Crowther

Windmill

Windmill House is named after the white windmill which can clearly be seen on Gibbets Marsh. It stands on the originals base built in 1824. The white top section was rebuilt following a fire in the early 1930’s.

Head of House - Mrs Jill Mountford

Winmill House Motto

“Just do it” - You should try to go for things - even if you think you may not like it or be very good at it - you might surprise yourself!
