The Special Educational Needs Department is an integral part of the work of the school.
Early assessment and identification of need, rapid accurate communication with subject staff, and a Department-based approach by the Teaching Assistants, are helping the school create achievement for all learners.
We liaise with many outside agencies such as the Educational Psychology service, outreach teachers for the Visual Impaired and Hearing Impaired, and the advisory teacher from the Language and Learning Support Service.
Training for staff and for TA’s is organised to help them teach children with differing needs.
The Additional Needs Assistant Manager, Matt Townsend, and Assistant Head Mrs Coleman, are responsible for enabling all children with Special Educational Needs to enjoy learning and succeed at their own level.

The five aims of the Children’s Act: ‘being healthy, staying safe, enjoying and achieving, and making a positive contribution’ provide a good summary of our aim for every student.
