Peer mentoring

What is peer mentoring?

If you have a problem of any kind, where you need to speak to someone other than a member of staff, you can approach any peer mentor who has been trained to help you with your problem:

Here are some examples of how our peer mentors helped last year when a student was:

feeling scared about a lesson, student, or a situation within College
feeling left out by friends unsure of how to ask a member of staff a difficult question
feeling worried about not having the right equipment, uniform, or something else they need in College
worried about a situation outside of College and needed advice
embarrassed about something that happened to them
aware of something that was happening to another student in College

Often they will arrange a time to speak with you privately, but sometimes if it’s at college breaks the problem can be discussed straight away.

Is this confidential?

In most cases the conversation you have will be respected by the peer mentor, however in some cases with your knowledge they will seek advice from Ms Croucher or Mrs Lyden who run the peer mentoring programme in the college.

Who are peer mentors?

These are trained students within our college, from year 8 through to year 11.

How will I find a peer mentor?

They will be introduced to you in house assemblies, photographs may be found on tutor and house notice boards; and all peer mentors will have ID badges.
